Working From Home Tips

As the effects of COVID-19 are being felt more and more by businesses and people every day, we have decided to work from home for the foreseeable future. To ensure the safety of our staff and clients, having employees isolated and working from home will be the best preventative measure.

For tips on how to make the most of this time and optimize your workload, as well as what to do to prepare for working from home, we have put together some points on how to best move forward at this time.

1. Share relevant information with your customers

To keep everyone in the loop and operate to the best of your ability, staying active on social media and pinning important information on your Facebook page will keep everyone up to date. Email contact will be crucial and replying as soon as possible will ensure no information is lost and that everyone is on the same page.

Regular updates should be sent to clients as to their current position and how they are tracking in the current conditions. Procedures that change need to be shared and an understanding made that this will be an uncertain time for all businesses, however, businesses will be conducted as usual.

2. Update your business profiles

If your opening hours have changed, update the times when you’ll be open or closed on your Google My Business Profile and Facebook page. Make sure your phone number is correct so that customers can reach you and pop any critical info (such as closure announcements, event cancellations or shipping delays) in your social media account bios and Facebook page cover photo.

3. Prepare employee documents to take home

Employees need access to all platforms and documents used to produce their everyday work. Create the necessary spreadsheets and update all current platforms so the transition is simple and efficient. Creating access to the work server or downloading documents that employees need to operate will be crucial when making the transition. Organize the necessary information and

Having the data that employees need to operate at their disposal from the work server and physical documents for operation is important to organize prior to working from home.

Ask employees what they need to be able to work from home efficiently and cater to those needs. Whether it’s taking home their desktops and laptops, hard drives to store data or even stationary; all of these things are needed to work, and ensuring employees have access to these tools will promote an efficient working environment.

4. Anticipate employee change in operations

To keep everyone on track and working to the best of their ability, organizing routine check-ins, meetings and reports will keep everyone updated. This will also help to ensure employees stay motivated and understand exactly what it is they have to achieve.

Adding some fun activities to your calendar will also increase motivation; zoom lunches, slack channels with Spotify playlist sharing and dedicated team chill time such as a group meditation are just some fun activities. Team bonding is an essential part of workplace comradery and this needs to be encouraged even whilst working from home.

5. Anticipate customer change in operations

Although business will carry on as usual for many, and purely be operating from a different location, customers may believe there will be a shift. Informing them that this is not the case with regular updates will increase customer satisfaction.

For those that sell a product, there may be a shift in purchase behaviors. Consumers may shop around for the lowest delivery fees or have items sitting in cart for extended periods of time. Adding AfterPay or ZipPay to your website during this time will capture those considering price points.

Ensuring that customers are a part of the brand still at this time, will also be an advantage. Post images and videos on your social channels of the team working from home and content that inspires a connection to retain customers.
